The Degree of Mark Master Mason is open to all Master Masons. The ceremony, in which he is ‘advanced’, can be said to comprise two degrees: the first part in which he is acknowledged as a Mark Man and then the second where he becomes a Mark Master Mason. The Mark referred to in its title takes its name from the Mark or Symbol with which the Stonemason identified his work and can still be found in many Cathedrals and important buildings.

THE ORIGINS OF MARK MASTER MASONS'

It is well known that operative stone masons indented
the stones they had prepared with special marks.
These were of two types, those that indicated the
orientation and position of the stone within the building
together with a personal mark to identify the mason
who prepared it.

A message from the Provincial Grand Master – R.W. Brother Phillip A. Mann.

I am delighted to welcome you to our website where I hope you will find much interest in matters relating to the Mark and Royal Ark Mariner Degrees in Leicestershire & Rutland.

The Mark Degree is the third largest in English Masonry, and enjoys good working relations with the Craft and Royal Arch. Just as in olden times the Mark should be viewed as an essential step in a Freemason’s progression. Membership of the Mark Degree is open to all Craft brethren who have been Master Masons for at least four weeks. Full details of the Mark and the Royal Ark Mariner Degrees are available in leaflet format within the website.

In addition to making available the latest issues of the Magic of the Mark regular updates of events and happenings in the Province are also included. Details of these events are shown in the List of Events and include Mark Provincial Grand Lodge which, this year, will take place at Freemasons’ Hall, London Road, Leicester on Tuesday May 9th 2017. The details including the Summons and Report of Proceedings will be published on the website prior to the meeting.

Copies of various documents to assist Secretaries and Scribes are available on theDownloads page, please let us know what documentation would assist you if available by this method.

Should you have any suggestions as to further use of this site then please go to the Contact Us page to email the site webmaster and these will be considered at the next meeting of the Provincial Executive.

Enjoy the Magic of the Mark!!

Sincerely and fraternally.
